(Update) Pacman KO'd in final Namfrel tally for Gen San

Reelectionist Rep. Darlene Antonino Custodio clobbered boxing icon Manny Pacquiao in the final unofficial tally of the National Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel) for General Santos City. Television reports on late Thursday afternoon said Custodio led by nearly 37,000 votes in General Santos, the urban center of South Cotabato's first district which she and Pacquiao are contesting. The Namfrel tally showed that the second-term lawmaker took 87,138 votes, while Pacquiao got 50,229 votes. South Cotabato's first district is made up of General Santos City and the towns of Polomok, Tampakan and Tupi. Pacquiao has still refused to accept defeat, saying his lawyers will question the absence of Commission on Elections (Comelec) watermarks in some election returns. The "people's champ," who amassed millions of dollars with his success in the boxing ring, said in a recent interview that he will accept defeat as long as "clean elections" were held. Custodio and her kin at the Antonino clan have governed the area for decades. Pacquiao recently accused the Antoninos of raising P100 million to have him killed, but the lawmaker flatly denied the charge. Pacquiao not yet fit for politics The news about Pacquiao's impending defeat in the elections drew a reaction from WBC head Jose Sulaiman. In an article posted on www.boxingscene.com, Sulaiman was quoted as saying "Manny Pacquiao’s legendary timing is off….politically wise!" Sulaiman told the boxing Web site that Pacquiao "doesn’t appear to be having the same dynamic impact at the ballot box, as he does in the ringed square." "I believe that Manny Pacquiao made a mistake at this particular time. He should have run for politics, after retirement from boxing," Sulaiman further told the www.boxingscene.com. Sulaiman added: “God gave him this boxing ability that has made him multi hero and a multi millionaire. So he should stay where he is a king, until he has to step down. Then he should use his popularity to go into politics, when he can totally devote his time to that. Because the voters will say now…what is he going to do boxing or politics?!" - GMANews.TV
