Photojournalist shot dead in Cavite ambush

A journalist may have ended up the latest victim in post-election violence after three men shot him dead in Cavite province Monday night. Radio dzRH reported Tuesday morning that sketchy initial police reports identified the victim as Dodie Nuñez, a photojournalist for "Katapat" newspaper. Nuñez was on his way home to his house in General Mariano Alvarez (GMA) in Cavite aboard a passenger jeep at about 9 p.m. Monday when three unidentified men shot him. "Katapat" is a local newspaper owned by Archie Gadang, who challenged Ireneo Maliksi for the gubernatorial post of the province last May 14. Gadang, who ran as an independent, faces a libel suit from Maliksi. Maliksi sued him for libel for supposedly publishing malicious allegations of corruption against him. Gadang is out on bail after a court issued a warrant for his arrest. - GMANews.TV
