Pampanga edges Baguio for world’s longest longganisa

Sun.Star: At 5.4 kilometers, Pampanga successfully set a world record for making the world’s longest “longanisa (sausage)" in San Fernando City. Sun-Star Pampanga (www.sunstar.com.ph) reported Thursday that the sausage involved 4,000 kilos of meat, 5,000 kilos of garlic, 100 kilos of sugar, 385 kilos of salt and spices. It said the dish cost some P500,000, and measured at 5.4 kilometers, snatching the record from Baguio City’s 3.7-kilometer longanisa. The record-setting feat highlighted this year’s Pyestang Fernandino, with meat processor “Pampanga’s Best" providing 4.5 to five kilometers of meat for the city’s second attempt to garner the world record. San Fernando Mayor Oscar Rodriguez and executive chairwoman Agnes Romero led the event with other city officials. The event ended with the distribution of longanisa to about 3,000 families as a gesture of thanksgiving to the City of San Fernando and to their patron saint, St. Ferdinand. - Sun.Star
