10 DepEd officials face sanctions over alleged cheating in regional games

At least 10 officials of the Department of Education in Camarines Sur face sanctions over allegations of cheating that marred the recently concluded Palarong Bicol regional games.

The administrative sanctions were recommended by the Regional Screening and Accreditation Committee (RSAC), GMA Bicol reported Friday.

Initial findings showed the 10 may have had something to do with the fielding of allegedly ineligible players by Camarines Sur to the regional games.

RSAC found at least one ineligible athlete may have competed using the name of an accredited player.

Camarines Sur, the regional games' host this year, emerged the overall champion in the Palarong Bicol.

"Meron talagang mga tao na dapat i-penalize. With this, it could be Albay to file the complaint or motu propio the regional office may issue a formal charge," DepEd Region 5 chief administrative officer Jose Bonto said.

The report said those who may face sanctions include the principal, school coach, and members of the district screening committee.

But Bonto also said the RSAC did not recommend to nullify results of the athletics competition in which some players in question took part.

Also, the DepEd Region 5 said this controversy is not likely to affect the athletes the region will send to the Palarong Pambansa 2015.

Still, the RSAC said stricter measures will be adopted to verify the qualifications of the athletes.

"Ang dadalhin natin doon ay authentic at hindi impersonated," Bonto said. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
