DENR: Cebu’s Mangitngit Falls still exposed to slides

Mangitngit Falls may be completely kept off limits to the public after government geologists found out that the popular picnic area in Cebu province remains vulnerable to landslides and flash floods. Two girls died and 13 people were injured when a landslide hit the area in Carmen town on June 8. Based on the inspection of a team of geologists from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources led by Maria Elena S. Lupo and Josephine T. Aleta, heavy downpour of rain can cause another collapse at Mangitngit Falls. The team recommended that the site be kept close to the public until remedial measures are undertaken. - GMANews.TV
