76-year-old woman, 4 grandchildren die in Bacolod fire
A 76-year-old woman and her four grandchildren perished in a fire that hit their house in Bacolod City early Tuesday.
Norma Pido and her grandchildren aged 6, 7, 10 and 13 were trapped in their house at Purok Bulgan in Barangay 1, GMA Bacolod reported.
The remains of the five victims were seen side by side, after firefighters managed to clear the debris.
Pido's daughter Michelle Gally, mother of three of the children, was at work and rushed home after being informed her house was on fire.
Gally's brother Rommel Pido, a local radio reporter, wept when he saw the remains of the victims.
Some seven houses were destroyed while three were damaged.
An initial investigation showed the fire started at the house of one Mary Saltore. The fire destroyed between P150,000 and P200,000 in property.
Firefighters had a hard time getting to the scene because of the narrow roads.
Affected residents were urged to move to the Arao relocation site.
The Bacolod City local government has extended assistance to the affected families. — Joel Locsin/ELR/LBG, GMA News
