Hot weather brings down water levels in some Cebu dams

The hot weather in recent weeks has brought down water levels in some dams in Cebu province, affecting the water supply for several barangays.

While water utility officials assured there is still enough supply, they called on residents to conserve water, GMA Cebu's Mark Anthony Bautista reported Thursday.

In Talisay City, the water output of the Jaclupan water facility has gone down, decreasing water supply to 12 barangays there.

Affected barangays include Lagtang, Lawaan, Mojon, Tabunok, San Isidro, Cansojong, Dumlog, Pooc, Biasong, San Roque, Tangke, and Bulacao.

On the other hand, at least 15 barangays in Cebu City are affected by the lower water levels at Buhisan Dam.

Affected barangays include Bulacao, Inayawan, Cogon Pardo, Quiot, Kinasang-an, Basak Pardo, San Nicolas, Mambaling, Punta Princesa, Tisa, Labangon, downtown area, Carbon, Capitol, and Camputhaw.

However, the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) assured it is addressing the issue, using water supplies from Carmen town.

Carmen Bulk Water can supply some 30,000 cubic meters of water.

Also, MCWD gets 1,200 cubic meters of water from Barangay Opra in Cebu City

Conservation

Still, MCWD acting assistant general manager for operations Engineer Lasaro Salvacion called for conservation.

"Although we are not saying really that walang effect, there might be little inconveniences sa mga tao. Ang importante lang we are able to explain it to them because it would mean that if [we] would have shortage within the peak period then during the lean ... maybe sa gabi, let’s try to store water," he said. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
