CDO church officials meets Muslims, indigenous folk on BBL

Officials of the Catholic Church in Cagayan de Oro City on Monday held a forum with representatives of Muslims and indigenous groups to discuss support for the passage of the Bangsamoro Basic Law.

Cagayan de Oro Archbishop Antonio Ledesma attended the meeting along with Reps. Rufus and Maximo Rodriguez, GMA Northern Mindanao's Joane Tabique reported.

"We are trying to help bring together groups gaya nito," Ledesma said.

A photo posted by GMA Northern Mindanao's Tabique showed Ledesma and the other representatives at the meeting at the Archbishop's residence.

For his part, Cagayan de Oro 2nd District Rep. Rufus Rodriguez said they are looking at whether the bill will follow the Constitution and whether it is good for the Bangsamoro and Mindanao.

The Cagayan de Oro representative is chairman of the House panel created to deliberate on the BBL.

If passed into law, the BBL aims to establish a political entity that will replace the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. The proposed Bangsamoro territory will have more powers than the ARMM but will remain part of the Philippines. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
