In Cebu, business as usual for milk tea shops after Manila incident

The death of two people who drank milk tea in Manila last week has not dissuaded customers from going to milk tea outlets in Cebu province.

However, some milk tea shop owners have also voiced concerns the Manila incident could still affect their businesses, GMA Cebu's Vic Serna reported.

At one milk tea shop in Cebu City, it was still business as usual as of Tuesday, with staff saying there was no decrease in the number of customers.

Still, the cashier at the shop said the customers were curious about what happened in Manila - where two people died and one was hospitalized after drinking milk tea.

"Meron talaga kaming mga regular customers pero nagtatanong rin sila tungkol sa balita," said cashier Ruvie Abuton.

Owners of other shops in Cebu said they are concerned the Manila incident could pull down sales of the brew.

The Department of Health initially said it found no trace of toxic substances in the samples of the milk tea that killed two in Manila. -- Joel Locsin/JST, GMA News
