Teen arnis player killed in Bacolod road accident

A 17-year-old arnis player lost his life after figuring in a road accident in Bacolod City Tuesday afternoon.

John Oliver dela Cruz was riding a mountain bike when a tricycle hit him at Doña Aurora Avenue in Barangay Mandalagan, GMA Bacolod reported Thursday.

Dela Cruz, who had planned to take a collegiate entrance exam next week, died from his injuries on Wednesday noon.

He had sustained injuries in the head and chest.

The victim had participated in arnis competitions at the recent Regional Athletic Meet Association in Capiz.

He had won several medals and trophies in arnis competitions.

Meanwhile, dela Cruz's family is planning to pursue charges against tricycle driver Edmund Gomez. Expected to help dela Cruz's family is the city Department of Social Services and Development. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
