Cebu holds food safety seminar after Manila milk tea deaths

Following the death of two people who drank milk tea in Manila, health authorities held a two-day food safety seminar in Cebu province this week.

Participants at the two-day seminar included food manufacturers and small and medium businesses, GMA Cebu's Nikko Sereno reported Friday.

The Department of Trade and Industry and Food and Drug Administration held the seminar, which aims to ensure the safety of food products they sell.

Only last week, a woman and a milk tea shop owner died after they drank milk tea in Sampaloc, Manila.

Health authorities are still investigating the incident.

After last week's incident, some milk tea shops in Pangasinan noted lower sales as customers got wary of the product.

But in Cebu, shop owners said it was business as usual although some customers were curious about what happened in Manila. -- Joel Locsin/JST, GMA News
