Cebu town police chief accused of shooting woman's foot, willing to face probe

A town police chief in Cebu province faces an investigation for allegedly shooting a woman in the foot during an anti-gambling operation early this week.

Now facing an investigation is Alcoy police chief Senior Inspector Jomar Medil, GMA Cebu's Bexmae Jumao-as reported Tuseday.

The incident occurred during an anti-illegal operation where Medil supposedly fired an "air soft" gun and hit a 45-year-old woman in the foot.

But Medil denied the allegations against him, saying he had not used his "air soft" gun because it was broken.

"Nag-complain siya na binaril at sinampal ko siya. All fabricated. Our station, our unit ... are free for further investigation regarding ... that report," he told GMA News in a phone patch interview.

An initial investigation showed the woman may have been wounded while trying to escape from police.

Regional Investigation and Detection Management Division 7 head Senior Superintendent Rey Lyndon Lawas said their initial findings showed those gambling ran when they saw the police arrive.

These will be part of his unit's investigation, he said.

"Kakarating lang ng operatiba natin nagtakbohan na sila mula sa paglalaro and then may nahagip daw yong babae sa pagtakas niya, this will be part of investigation later on. Hearing the side of the police, they got entangled sa bakod kaya nasugatan," he said. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
