Davao City barangay watchman gunned down in own house

A Davao City barangay watchman was gunned down by two assailants inside his Maligaya Village house last Saturday.

 

GMA Davao identified the victim as Emiliano Ybañez Sr., who was shot in the neck.

 

The victim's son Emiliano Jr. said his father had no known enemies. "Wala naman siyang nasabi (na mga kaaway), maliban na lang sa mga nagaganap sa barangay na meron silang (mga operasyon), mga riot-riot, ganon lang naman," he said.

 

Investigators are not discounting the possibility the victim may have been killed in retaliation for his role in an anti-drug operation that resulted in the death of a suspected drug pusher identified only as Taguro.

 

"Yung pinatay sa [Barangay] Mintal na si Taguro, kapitbahay nila yun, magkalapit lang ang bahay nila. Madadaanan lang yung burol ni Taguro (sa bahay ni Taguro). So may impormasyon din kami na yung mga tirador, dumaan doon, dumalo sa burol ni Taguro," said C/Insp. Alfredo Santillana, chief of the Talomo police. — Joel Locsin/JDS/DVM, GMA News
