Davao City cops release sketch of gunman who killed student

Police in Davao City on Thursday released a sketch of the suspected gunman in the killing of a 20-year-old student last Tuesday night.

The police described the suspect as standing 5'2", light brown-complexioned, medium-built, and 25 to 30 years old, GMA Davao reported Friday.

On Tuesday night, an assailant gunned down Joshua Saligue, 20, in the city's Ecoland area.

Citing witnesses' accounts, police also said the assailant wore a white undershirt, denim shorts and a cap.

"Hinihintay niya (biktima) ang girlfriend niya doon sa area kasi parang magde-date sila then may dalawang tao na lumapit sa kanya at binaril siya," said Davao City police spokesperson Senior Inspector Mil Grace Driz.

For now, police are looking into theories that the killing may have something to do with Saligue's love life, or that Saligue was just a victim of mistaken identity.

"Sa love life, may ibang babae kasi na involved bago pa binaril ang biktima. May ime-meet na babae raw pero hindi pa natin masyadong na-establish 'yan. Hindi natin alam kung girlfriend ba talaga niya yun or somebody lang na pinapunta siya dun o friend lang," Driz said.

An initial police investigation had showed the victim was shot while he was about to start the engine of his motorcycle.

Recovered from the scene was an empty shell from a cal-.45 pistol. Police are looking into leads on the motive behind the shooting. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
