Historical marker for Pinay heroine Patrocinio Gamboa unveiled in Iloilo

A historical marker honoring Filipino heroine Patrocinio Gamboa was unveiled in Iloilo City on Thursday.

The marker was unveiled in simple rites, in time for Gamboa's 150th birth anniversary, GMA Iloilo reported.

National Historical Commission of the Philippines officials led by executive director Ludovico Badoy turned over the marker to Microensure Insurance Brokers Philippines.

Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, Rep. Jerry Treñas, Gov. Arthur Defensor, Msgr. Jose Gamboa and NHCP Deputy Executive Director Veronica Dado witnessed the signing of the certificate of transfer.

The NHCP said the marker cited Gamboa, born April 30, 1865, for her role in the Revolutionary Movement in Iloilo in March 1898.

It said she risked her life in transporting the Philippine flag from Jaro to Sta. Barbara town where it was raised by Gen. Martin Delgado on Nov. 17, 1898.

Gamboa was also cited for caring for Filipinos who were wounded or fell ill while fighting American troops.

She died Nov. 24, 1953 in Molo, Iloilo. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
