Pangasinan mayor may be grilled over alleged irregularities in longest barbecue event

A town mayor of Pangasinan faces a grilling before the Office of the Ombudsman over alleged irregularities in a barbecue event that set a world record last year.

Bayambang Mayor Ricardo Camacho was the subject of a complaint lodged by trader Cesar Quiambao, GMA News TV's Balita Pilipinas Ngayon reported Monday.

Quiambao claimed the grills used in last year's barbecue—which set a world record for being the longest—were his donation and were not from public funds as the mayor's office supposedly made it appear.

A GMA News team went to Camacho's office but he was not there. His consultant said they have not received a copy of the complaint and could not immediately comment.

On April 4, 2014, Bayambang set a world record for the longest barbecue measuring 8,000 meters.

The record was set during the Malangsi Fish-tival marking the 400th anniversary of Bayambang.

Guinness World Records said the barbecue was made of 8,000 connected grills, with 50,000 kg of fish, 2,000 kg of salt, 480 blocks of ice and 6,000 bags of charcoal used. —Joel Locsin/KG, GMA News
