Sun.Star: Driver makes off with 450 bags of sugar in Bacolod

Authorities are now hunting a 30-year-old driver for allegedly carting away 450 bags of refined sugar of the Victorias Milling Company (VMC) in Bacolod City. Sun.Star Bacolod reported Tuesday that Dennis Castañares of Green Village Subdivision remains at large after employer Manuel Chua accused him of stealing the sugar. Chua said the 450 bags of sugar – valued at P700,000 – were to be stored at a warehouse at Bredco Port in Bacolod. Records from the VMC guardhouse disclosed that Castañares reportedly took the 450 bags of refined sugar from the firm's warehouse Thursday last week. He arrived at Bredco the next day with empty truck. Chua reported the matter to Victorias City Police Office (VCPO), and said Castañares only told him that he had not loaded the sugar because the truck suffered mechanical trouble. However, Chua said it was clear from the logbook of the security guards at VMC that indeed Castañares had already loaded the sugar. Investigator-on-case Senior Police Officer (SPO) 2 Luis Mulato said lawmen went to Castañares' house but the driver was not around. He said criminal charges are now being readied against him. - GMANews.TV
