Truck crash causes 10-hour brownout in 15 Baguio barangays

For nearly 10 hours on Sunday, 15 barangays in Baguio City had no power after a dump truck crashed into an electric post there.

 

Power was cut from 1:40 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., GMA Dagupan reported Monday. The driver of the truck said his vehicle's brakes failed. 

 

Sunday's power interruption disrupted some businesses in the city, including vendors selling lechon at Burnham Park.

 

According to the vendors, they use electricity when cooking the lechon, but had to resort to traditional methods when the power went out.

 

"Wala ring bumili dahil walang kuryente," said one vendor.

 

"Meron mang bumili, isa o dalawa lang nung nagkaroon ng kuryente," said another.

 

The truck driver's employer is coordinating with BENECO to repair the broken electric post. BENECO is still determining the extent of damage caused by the crash. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
