DPWH completes road project to boost tourism in Agusan del Norte

Tourism in Agusan del Norte is expected to get a boost with a newly completed road improvement project, the Department of Public Works and Highways said.

Funded by the 2014 Department of Tourism-DPWH Convergence Program, the P133-million project involves the upgrading of 6.8 kilometers of the NRJ Tagcatong-Vinapor Road in Carmen town.

“Our objective is to transform Agusan del Norte and other provinces of Mindanao designated by DOT as tourist attractions through the development of quality road network,” said DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson.

The project allows better road access for tourists heading for Jurassic Beach Resort, Bolihon Beach and the unspoiled Diwata Cave.

It includes a 6.10-meter-wide road concreting using Portland Cement Concrete Pavement, with 1.5-meter-wide paved shoulders at intermittent sections and cross drains and line canal.

Singson said one of the government's priorities is to invest in tourism infrastructure in Mindanao.

"This would translate to economic development of the area, with the increase in demand for goods and services,” he said. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
