Cebu City man stabs wife dead for not placing ‘Swertres’ bet

The numbers game "Swertres" proved extremely unlucky for a woman in Cebu City, after her husband stabbed her for failing to place a bet over the weekend.

 

Winstil Gevirola, 31, was attacked by her husband Renante at their house in Sitio Exoville in Barangay Basak-Pardo in Cebu City Friday night, GMA Cebu reported Monday.

 

Renante, a security guard, then stabbed himself but was rushed to a hospital. However, homicide police said he died Saturday.

 

Initial investigation showed the couple had an argument over the victim's failure to place a bet on the "Swertres" draw for the day.

 

In the version of the "Swertres" run by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, bettors pick three numbers that must be drawn in the exact order.
