DPWH completes improvement of access roads to Sarangani white sand beaches
Now that improvement works on the roads leading to Gumasa in Sarangani have been completed, residents and tourists now have better access to the locality's white sand beaches "comparable to those found in Boracay and Palawan," the Department of Public Works and Highways said Tuesday.
Works included the concreting and widening of two routes along the Sarangani–Davao del Sur Coastal Road to and from Gumasa Beach.
The DPWH said the project was implemented under the Department of Tourism-DPWH Convergence Program on Enhancing Tourism Access in Soccsksargen region.
"Passing through agricultural land and beautiful scenery overlooking Celebes Sea and white sand beaches, the tourism road is expected to attract more local and international tourists especially during its hosting of annual Sarangani Bay Festival or Sarbay Fest where series of outdoor activities are featured," the DPWH said.
The first route is a 0.75-kilometer road which was widened from four meters to six meters. The second route is a 1.28-kilometer access road, which is now paved in concrete. — Joel Locsin/ELR, GMA News
