4-month-old child dies in Cebu City fire

A four-month-old baby perished in a fire that hit their house in Barangay Lorega San Miguel in Cebu City early Friday.

The child was trapped inside the house during the fire that started shortly after 6 a.m., RGMA Cebu's Orchids Lapincao reported on dzBB radio.

Firefighters recovered the child's remains among the debris at the ground floor after they had placed the fire under control.

Ryan Paragoso and his wife Joan managed to rescue their two other children aged 4 and 1. Ryan suffered minor burns in his right foot.

He said he woke up due to the thick smoke and saw his house on fire. He then woke his wife and children.

They managed to get their two children out of the house but then realized the youngest was still inside.

Cebu City fire department and barangay officials said at least 10 houses were destroyed in the fire.

Investigators are looking into an electrical short circuit as the cause of the fire. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
