Tight security kept responders from scene of Ayala ceiling collapse

Emergency responders in Cebu City were prevented from entering the local Ayala Center mall to give aid to those injured when the ceiling of a movie theater there collapsed, GMA News' early evening newscast, "24 Oras", reported Tuesday evening.

Nine people were injured in the incident Monday evening, the mall's management said in a statement to news media on Tuesday.

The "24 Oras" report said the mall's tight security kept the emergency responders outside the mall where they waited for the injured to be brought out.

Ayala Center Cebu said their own emergency brigade "immediately responded" to the incident.

A spokeperson for the mall said they will conduct an internal investigation.

Cebu City hall sent inspectors to determine the cause of the ceiling collapse and to also find out why the city's responders were prevented from entering the mall premises during the emergency.  — ELR, GMA News
