After cinema ceiling collapse, Cebu City to hold disaster simulations next week
The Cebu City government is holding a disaster simulation for malls and high-rise buildings next week in response to the collapse of a part of a mall cinema's ceiling on Monday that injured nine people.
The Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council met with disaster responders Friday to discuss preparations for the simulation, GMA Cebu's Alan Domingo reported.
City councilor Dave Tumulak said last Monday's mall ceiling collapse should be an eye-opener on how to respond to emergencies.
Next week's disaster simulation will involve movie houses, malls and high-rise buildings.
Meanwhile, Tumulak said they inspected movie houses in the North Reclamation Area in Cebu City on Friday morning.
While he said the cinemas appeared to comply with safety standards, there should be periodic tests of the structure to ensure patrons' safety.
Tumulak also said a hydro test was conducted on the Ayala Center Cebu but they are waiting for the results. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
