Man wanted for dad's killing falls after 11 years in hiding

More than a decade of hiding finally ended Wednesday for a man charged with killing his own father in Zamboanga Sibugay province.

 

Police acting on a tip traced Camelo Morales to his hiding place in Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu, GMA Cebu's Alan Domingo reported Thursday.

 

Morales, who hails from Diplahan town in Zamboanga Sibugay, faces charges of murder and serious physical injury, police said. The charges were lodged in 2004.

 

"Siya yung most wanted namin doon sa municipal level. Then yung case niya is nung 2004 pa, murder then may serious physical injury din siya," Diplahan police head Inspector Xyrrone Caronan said.

 

Police have brought Morales back to Zamboanga Sibugay.

 

But Morales insisted he killed his father out of self-defense, saying his father tried to hit him.

 

"(D)epensa lang ang ginawa ko, self-defense. Ang ama ko ang naghampas noon, gumanti lang ako," he said. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
