SunStar: Man runs amuck, kills village chief, 3 others
A village chief, his wife and two others were killed after a mentally unstable man ran amuck in Tabuelan town in Cebu province Saturday. Sun Star Cebu reported Sunday that the incident took place in Canlu-hangon village in Tabuelan town, after suspect Taquilio Tuling lost control of himself. Killed in the incident were village chief Romualdo Montecalvo, 56; his wife Armingola, 53; and even Tulingâs wife Dina, 40, and sister-in-law Julieta. The incident happened at 2 p.m. Tuling managed to escape from club-wielding neighbors who ganged up on him. SPO1 Ramon Montecalvo, brother of the slain village chief, said they already noticed Taquilio acting strange before the attack. They are still investigating what caused his behavior. Insp. Camelo Gonzaga, Tabuelan Police chief, said they are now hunting down the suspect. Initial investigation showed that hours before running amuck, Taquilio went to Romualdo and asked to be taken to the hospital because he was not feeling well. Romualdo hired a motorcycle to take him to the hospital, but while they were on the road, Taquilio started to shake convulsively, forcing the driver to stop to avoid an accident. The driver told police that when the motorcycle stopped, Taquilio ran towards a nearby house and gulped down glasses of water. After drinking, he ran outside toward Julietaâs house. He then stabbed his sister-in-law in the stomach, killing her on the spot. Police have yet to know where Taquilio got the knife. Seeing what happened, Dina tried to stop her husband. But she was also attacked and stabbed in the stomach. She was taken to a hospital where she died hours later. Witnesses ran to get Romualdo, as he was reportedly the only person the suspect would listen to. But when Romualdo arrived at the scene, Taquilio stabbed him in the chest. Montecalvoâs wife Armingola tried to save her husband and was also stabbed in the back and side. The attacks stopped when neighbors armed with clubs ganged up on Taquilio. Although bruised, he managed to escape. - GMANews.TV
