10-year-old pupil dies after collision with tricycle in Pangasinan

A 10-year-old boy in Asingan, Pangasinan died last Friday from head injuries sustained in a collision with a tricycle, GMA Dagupan's Glam Calicdan reported Monday.

The parents of Jade Estacio vowed to pursue charges against tricycle driver Melchor Damasco.

"Maibabalik ba niya yung buhay ng anak ko? Nag-iisang lalaki yun...Sobrang sakit ang ginawa niya," said Estacio's mother Mary Jane.

Friday’s incident occurred near the victim's house at Barangay Calepaan. The boy was rushed to a hospital in Urdaneta City but succumbed to head injuries. Damasco was taken into police custody.

Police said the boy suddenly crossed the street, and Damasco could not stop his tricycle in time.

"Hindi ko po sinasadya. Aksidente po ang nangyari dahil hindi ko naman po alam na tatalon siya at biglang tatakbo siya," Damasco said.

But the victim's father Dante said Damasco was speeding.

"Matulin talaga, nagbusina siya. Ibig sabihin alam niyang may tatawid. Warning na dapat yun kaya sana nagmenor na siya," he said.

Asingan police deputy head Inspector Meginio Garcia said police may file charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide against Damasco.  — Joel Locsin/ELR, GMA News
