Coast Guard vessel with remains of 50 ferry disaster victims heads for Cebu
(Updated 9:20 p.m.) A Coast Guard vessel carrying the remains of at least 50 fatalities from Thursday's capsizing of the MB Kim Nirvana-B off Ormoc headed for Camotes Island in Cebu Sunday.
The Cebu provincial government said more than 200 people boarded the Coast Guard vessel that headed for Pilar, Camotes.
It said the coffins bearing the remains were arranged on the boat's helipad. The boat left Ormoc at 7 a.m.
GMA's Raffy Tima reported that Vice President Jejomar Binay was at the Ormoc pier to inspect the boat.
The MB Kim Nirvana-B ferry was on its way to the Camotes Islands when it capsized off Ormoc on July 2, Thursday.
The motorized outrigger boat was reportedly carrying 189 passengers and crew members.
