Farmer drowns in Pangasinan river amid heavy rain

A farmer drowned after falling into a river amid heavy rain in Binalonan town in Pangasinan last weekend.

The body of Danilo Divina was found Thursday, days after the incident in Barangay Moreno, GMA Dagupan reported Friday.

Divina supposed had told his wife Florencia he was to visit a friend ni San Manuel town.

"Meron daw kumuha ng kangkong doon, nakita na raw siya roon," said Mrs. Divina.

An initial police investigation showed the victim may have been intoxicated, having attended a drinking session before making his way home.

"Pinigilan pa raw siya na huwag ka nang umuwi, ipagpabukas mo na. Kasi yung kwento niya, papunta pa lang siya, muntik na siyang malunod sa ilog... Oo, parang ganun, nadulas," Binalonan police head Chief Inspector Oliver Abayan said.

Police theorized the victim had to cross a dike and the river to get to his friend's house, and that he may have fallen into the water. They also noted it was raining hard at the time of the incident.

"Paalala po natin ngayon kasi lalo na tag-ulan, may bagyo, iwasan po natin ang naglalabas lalo na pag tatawid tayo sa mga ilog," Abayan said. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
