Run held in Dagupan to mark 25th anniversary of killer quake
A "thanksgiving" run was held in Dagupan City on Thursday to mark the 25th anniversary of the killer quake that struck Baguio City and parts of Luzon in 1990, leaving some 1,600 people dead.
Participants braved the rainy weather in the "Run for Life" organized by the Lingayen-Dagupan Archdiocese, GMA Dagupan reported Friday.
The run was in thanksgiving for residents whose lives were spared in the tragedy, and for the people's eventual recovery.
"Noong unang run for life ... actually nangyari yun for pro-life, we are again doing this ngayon naman pang-family edition," said "Run for Life 2015" vice chairman Fr. Allen Romero.
Baguio City and several nearby areas were devastated when a magnitude-7.8 quake struck on July 16, 1990.
Participants at Thursday's event included youths, students, and representatives of various sectors of society, including delegations from the archdiocese.
One of the young participants also said she was joining to show "closeness to God" and for promoting health.
"Parang ipapakita po yung closeness kay God... at makakatulong po sa katawan at magpapalakas po," said Wendy Cayanan, 16, of Bayambang town. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
