90% of farmlands in Pangasinan town flooded; floods threaten north, C. Luzon

(Updated Sunday 8:35 a.m.)  About 90 percent of agricultural land in Bani town in Pangasinan province is under water due to weeks of continuous rain, even as floods and landslides have remained threats to north and Central Luzon.

Bani was declared in a state of calamity on Friday due to the rain, GMA Dagupan's Alfie Tulagan reported Saturday.

Photos posted by Tulagan on social media showed most of the town's agricultural area underwater.

Fishing was prohibited for the moment due to bad weather even as fishermen had to secure their boats against storm surges.

More than 5,000 households are flooded, Mayor Gwen Yamamoto said.

Meanwhile, in Dagupan City, some areas were flooded, making it hard for motorists to travel.

Flood forecast

In its Sunday 5 a.m. update, PAGASA said possible flash floods and landslides remain a threat to parts of northern and central Luzon.

Areas at risk of flash floods and landslides from monsoon rain include:

- Ilocos
- Cordillera
- Zambales
- Bataan

Also, it said Cagayan Valley and the rest of Central Luzon may experience occasional rain while Metro Manila and the rest of the country may expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms.

Elsewhere, slight to moderate winds coming from the south to southwest will prevail. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
