Landslide causes closure of Marcos Highway in Benguet

A landslide prompted authorities to close a part of Marcos Highway to motorists on Sunday, state-run Philippine Information Agency said.

The PIA said the landslide occurred in Sitio Bigis in Barangay Taloy Sur in Tuba, Benguet.

Clearing operations are ongoing, with the road expected to be cleared Sunday afternoon, the report added.

In the meantime, the PIA said motorists are advised to take Naguillan Road as Kennon Road is also experiencing several soil erosion and rockfall incidents.

Moreover, it said debris and a huge boulder fell from a mountain slope and blocked the highway's roadline at 7 a.m., affecting a 100-meter stretch of road.

Police ordered a temporary road closure to avoid any other untoward incidents until clearing operations are completed.  — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
