Ormoc port ship fire lasts 20 hours, finally put out on Sunday
The RORO vessel MV Wonderful Stars caught fire as it was docked at the Ormoc City docks, with the fire lasting almost 20 hours finally being put out on Sunday morning, GMA 7 news program “24 Oras Weekend” reported.
The Bureau of Fire Protection-Ormoc admitted that the fire lasted as long as it did because of the thick smoke and their firefighters did not have breathing equipment.
According to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), three people were injured in the fire, while over 600 passengers and crewmen were able to abandon ship unscathed.
Some P100 million in ship's cargo was destroyed in the fire, among which were brand new vehicles.
Meanwhile, the Palace said that the PCG and the Maritime Industry Authority were investigating the fire. — DVM, GMA News
