Iglesia ni Cristo members hold separate protest in Davao City
Iglesia ni Cristo members in Mindanao started their protest against the Justice Department's alleged interference in church matters by gathering in front of Davao City's Hall of Justice early Monday morning, GMA 7 morning show "Unang Hirit" reported.
Church spokesperson Edwil Zabala had said on Sunday that provincial members of the church were ready to hold protests parallel to the action on EDSA-Shaw in Metro Manila.
An Iglesia ni Cristo leader from Mindanao claimed that the church had 2.5 million members in the island group, and that members from Regions 9 to 13 were ready to take part in the protest.
A separate "Unang Hirit" report said that around 15,000 church members had left Pagadian City for the protest in Davao City. The Mindanao protest will continue until September 2. — DVM/JST, GMA News
