Negros Oriental sinkholes getting bigger

Residents of the municipality of Mabinay in Negros Oriental expressed concern about the sinkholes found in their area which are getting larger, a report on Unang Balita on Wednesday said.

Barangay officials were also alarmed to discover that the cracks around the two sinkholes are also getting bigger.

According to the barangay captain, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) already issued a warning about the danger posed by the sinkholes.

In spite of this, residents still refused to leave the vicinity.

However, they said they are ready to evacuate if needed, the report said.

Authorities have barred people from going to the area out of curiosity just to see the sinkholes. —KG, GMA News
