Minimum daily wage for private sector workers in Metro Cebu hiked to P353
Metro Cebu minimum wage was raised to P353.00 per day from P340.00 after the wage board of Central Visayas approved an increase of P13.00, the Department of Labor and Employment said on Thursday.
The wage order takes effect 15 days after newspaper publication.
DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said the wage hike for private sector employees of Metro Cebu includes the cities of Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, Talisay, Naga, Carcar, and Danao cities and the municipalities of Compostela, Consolacion, Liloan, Cordova, Minglanilla, and San Fernando.
But the increment does not apply to other areas of Cebu Province, Bohol, and Siquijor.
DOLE Regional office No. 7 Director Exequiel Sarcauga said they approved the increase to make up for the “erosion of the workers’ purchasing power amid the increase in the prices of prime goods.”
The wage hike was approved after hearings and consultations were conducted on petitions from the Alliance of Progressive Labor and Associated Labor Union-TUCP which sought increases of P145.00 and P92.00 across the board, respectively. — ELR, GMA News
