1 dead, 5 hurt in Baguio building collapse – rescue group
(Updated 6:21 p.m.) A worker was killed and another five were injured after demolition of the former Burnham Hotel in Baguio City went wrong on Saturday, the 911 on-call rescue group said.
According to group president Paeng Valencia, the workers were conducting demolition operations at the site around 10 a.m. when parts of the building crumbled,
The worker who was stuck in the rubble and killed as a result was identified as Ryan Bangsilan, 25, local police said. An initial report had identified him as Bryan Dagsilan.
Others injured in the incident were William Flores, who is in critical condition, and Jimboy de Guzman, Robert Alviar, Jonel Aquino and Jordan Francisco.
The victims were rushed to the Baguio General Hospital.
In their initial investigation, Baguio Police Station 7 commander Supt. Brent Madjaco said there might have been an error in the demolition procedure.
Madjaco also said the owner, Alfonso Lao is coordinating with them and also visited the casualties in the hospital. Lao said he will assist them in their treatment.
