Bulacan provincial gov't mulls declaring state of calamity due to dengue




Bulacan Governor Willy Sy Alvarado on Monday said the provincial government may declare a state of calamity due to the alarming number of dengue cases.
 
GMA News' Unang Hirit reported that according Alvarado, the provincial board is already deliberating on the recommendation to place the province under a state of calamity.
 
The governor said they will use the calamity fund to provide medical assistance to the dengue victims.
 
He added that the fund will also be used to intensify the provincial government's campaign against dengue.
 
The provincial health office (PHO) noted the alarming increase in the number of dengue cases in the province.
 
On September 23, GMA News reported that a total of 4,033 cases of dengue have been recorded since January.
 
The PHO said that since Wednesday, the number has ballooned to 4,392 cases.
 
It has also recorded 10 deaths due to dengue in the province.
 
The PHO said majority of the dengue cases were recorded in the towns of San Rafael, Malolos, Pulilan, San Jose Del Monte, Norzagaray and Angat.
 
The health office said that all government owned hospitals in the province are offering free medical services to dengue patients. —ALG, GMA News
