FOLLOWING SARA’S LEAD

Supporters shave heads to ask Duterte to run for president

Spurred by the example set by the daughter of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, several supporters of the local chief executive had their heads shaved on Wednesday to show support for calls for him to run for president in 2016.

Catherine Singcol, a "multi-brand ambassador" according to her Facebook account, posted several photographs of herself posing with Duterte's daughter, former Davao City mayor Sara Duterte, after having her head shaved.

Another supporter took a photograph of Singcol in the process of having her hair shaved off and captioned it with several hashtags.

"Para kay Mayor Duterte. Nung pinost ko po yung photo ni [Inday Sara] sabi ko kailangan ipakita ang suporta.... Ayan na po Ma'am Inday Sara Duterte, negsimula na," the caption of the private photo read.

Frank Villaroman, Davao Public Safety and Security Command Center Head, and other staff members of the Davao mayor also shaved their heads to show their support for their boss.

Davao City's Public Safety and Security group on Facebook also had several persons posting their after-parlor photos, with one even appropriating a gesture made famous by GMA's Kalyeserye.

Sara Duterte on Wednesday posted a picture of her head getting shaved with the caption "Nagpa upaw nalang ko samtang naghulat, bisan walay kwarta, bisan way makinarya, bisan mapildi (Magpakalbo muna habang naghihintay. Kahit walang pera, kahit walang makinarya, kahit matalo.)."

She then posted a picture of her father in black and white with the words "BAYAN O SARILI 10-15-15" and the caption "The 'right time' is near!" on her Facebook fan page.

Duterte announced on Monday that he was not running for president. He added that, if at all, he would run for reelection if Sara would not run for mayor.

The mayor, however, said last week that his presence at the Commission on Elections' main office in Manila on October 15 would mean that he was running for president. —Rie Takumi/NB/JST, GMA News
