Bulacan HS student killed in school altercation
A 14-year-old student, Rioben Santor Jr., was killed at the Sta. Maria National High School in Bulacan after his head smacked into the classroom floor during a fight with a fellow student, GMA 7 late night news program “Saksi” reported Friday.
School Principal Larry Lagman explained that during the fight, Rioben and the other student started grappling. They fell over and that was when Rioben hit his head on the floor
“In a matter of minutes lang, po, nadali namin sa ospital ang bata. Emergency case, po, ginawa naman, po, sa ospital, yung magagawa nila para ma-revive yung bata,” Lagman added.
And according to an Education Department investigation, the fight broke out during the lunch break, and thus there were no teachers in the classroom. “Wala naman pong teacher in charge kung free time,” said DepEd-Bulacan Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Bernadette Tamayo.
Rioben's father, Rioben Sr., was not at all satisfied with the explanations. “Kapabayan ng eskwelahan po iyon,” he countered. “Eh, sa loob po ng eskwelahan nangyari. 'Di po dapat sila ang nandodoon?”
As for the mother of the student Rioben fought with, she hoped that her son would be forgiven. “Sana po mapatawad nila, kasi po, kami po, hindi po rin namin ginusto ang nangyar,” said the mother. “Kaya po, humihingi po kami ng pasensya, pangunawa po, dahil aksidente po yung nangyari.”
The local force is continuing its investigation into Rioben's death. — DVM, GMA News
