Floodwaters continue to rise in Hagonoy, Bulacan

Floodwaters in several areas of Hagonoy, Bulacan continue to rise because of the high tide earlier Thursday morning, according to a report on GMA’s News to Go by Bam Alegre.

In some barangays, floods are just under knee-deep and have strong currents.

A total of 15 out of 26 barangays in Hagonoy, Bulacan were still flooded as of Thursday, according to the Hagonoy Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO).

Authorities attributed the rise in flood levels to the high tide on Thursday morning, at 12:00 a.m. They added that the floodwaters came from Nueva Ecija and Calumpit, which were brought about by Typhoon Lando (Koppu).

Some residents have already left their homes and are staying at evacuation centers like the San Pedro National High School which is currently housing 176 families. But water has already entered the school as well.

There is enough water for the evacuees and they have bathrooms and electricity, but they are running low on food.

Some barangays are still inaccessible, like Barangay Iba.

According to residents, this is the first time floodwaters have risen this high in their area, but they still do their best to go on with their daily lives. Mang Leo, one of the residents, is still driving his tricycle though the fare has gone up from P40 to P50. —Bea Montenegro/KG, GMA News
