Houses destroyed as logs, other debris came with flood in Laur

Residents in Laur, Nueva Ecija are crying for help. Floodwater from the slopes brought with it huge logs and other debris that destroyed their homes and even roads.

A report on GMA-7's "24 Oras" on Thursday showed how Lando battered Barangay San Vicente. Roads developed huge cracks, making them impassable to vehicles.

When the flood came to Laur during Lando's onslaught, Neneng Mendesabal was carrying her grandchild.

To save them both, she had to throw the child to a neighbor.  Her home is now covered in soil, mud, and little rocks.

"Ang hirap po pala nang ganito. Nadaanan ka ng bagyo. Nadaanan ka ng tubig. Hindi po dapat i-bale wala kami," Mendesabal said.

According to the local government of Laur, all of its 17 barangays were affected by the typhoon. The hardest hit areas were barangays San Vicente, San Fernando, and Vitania.

"Tulungan n'yo po kami. Idirekta n'yo na po sa mga bayan na nasalanta ang inyong relief. Iyon lang po ang hinihiling ko at kawawa po ang aking mga kababayan," Mayor Alvaro Daus pleaded.

Although the residents clearly need all the help they can get, Laur residents have also been doing their best to get by.

Samuel Lulunan has been digging mud and rocks out of his damaged home hoping to find things that he can save and still use.

"Mga gamit namin ito nahuhukay-hukay namin para meron kaming gagamitin," he cried.

Meanwhile, Rodrigo de Guzman has started collected the logs from the mountains to rebuild his home.

"Kinukuha namin ang mga nanaanod na kahoy para meron kaming maitayong bahay ulit," he said. -Trisha Macas/NB, GMA News
