Floods in Hagonoy, Bulacan may take 3 weeks to subside; some Pulilan residents catch mice for food
Residents of the town of Hagonoy in Bulacan expect floodwaters there to subside in three weeks, a report from GMA News' “24 Oras” newscast said Thursday.
In the report, Hagonoy Mayor Raulito Manlapaz said flooding in their area has become a recurring problem in the past years and made worse whenever high tide sets in.
“Mula dito sa aming bayan paakyat ng Angat ay may mga dugtong-dugtong na ilog yan. 'Yung mga lupa bumababa doon halos sa ilog bumabababa, nababahaw. Kaya pagka bumaba 'yung tubig, sa halip na makaya ng ilog ito ay pumupunta sa bahayan dahil mababaw na 'yung mga ilog,” he said.
An earlier report said 15 of 26 barangays in Hagonoy were still flooded as of Thursday.
Relief operations of the local government continue with deliveries of relief goods and arrival of responders via trucks and rubber boats.
Meanwhile, some residents of the town of Pulilan in Bulacan have resorted to catching and eating mice for food after floods submerged their homes and means of livelihood.
“Pagka ganito kasing baha wala na kaming hanap buhay. Kaya ito, daga ito na lang 'yung medyo pinagtitiisan namin pagka ganitong panahon,” a resident said.
