Ilocos Norte congressman's son killed in motorcycle crash

The 20-year-old son of Ilocos Norte Rep. Rodolfo Fariñas died early Sunday morning in a motorcycle accident in Bacarra town.

 

Rodolfo “JR” Fariñas Jr. died after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into the concrete barrier along the national highway in Barangay Buyon at around  5 a.m. He was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

 

A witness said the impact of the crash was so severe that the motorcycle exploded and caught fire.

 

The motorcycle was destroyed while Fariñas’ helmet was smashed as a result of the incident, the witness added.

 

Witnesses said the lawmaker’s son crashed his motorcycle because he was trying to avoid the truck that abruptly stopped in front of them. 

 

The police are still investigating the incident.

 

Fariñas' family, meanwhile, has refused to issue a statement on the matter.
