Jonvic Remulla substituted by brother in Cavite gubernatorial polls
Former Deputy Speaker Jesus Crispin "Boying" Remulla is substituting his brother Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla in the gubernatorial race next year.
Both Cavite leaders confirmed the substitution on Wednesday, a day before the Commission on Elections' deadline on the filing of certificates of candidacy of substitute candidates.
"He really wants to study again. He wants to spend quality time with his young family," Boying said of the governor foregoing a second re-election bid.
"After 20 straight years, he also deserves a break," the former Cavite congressman said.
Jonvic said it was time "for new ideas and new energy."
"[It's] time to unlearn and relearn a lot of things.... It's time for new leadership. I think Boying is the man for these times. I'm obsolete," the governor said of his elder brother.
Jonvic, a former spokesperson for political affairs of Vice President Jejomar Binay, said he would be very involved in the opposition leader's presidential campaign.
Boying said he was looking forward to solving the problems caused by the rapid urbanization of the province.
"Our province and country needs better planning and implementation, and it's not too late to improve our situation," he said. -NB, GMA News
