3 Aklan towns in state of calamity due to red tide


Three towns in Aklan province have been declared in state of calamity due to red tide toxin affecting seashells and other marine products in municipal waters there.

A report on "Unang Balita" said the provincial government declared the towns in state of calamity to be able to use the intended funds to assist affected residents.

The report indicated that over 2,000 families have been affected by the red tide infestation in Aklan.

Citing a study by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, it said that the coastal towns severely affected by red tide are Batan, Altavas, and New Washington. — LBG, GMA News
