FOR LACK OF RESIDENCY
Disqualification case filed vs. Pacquiao brod in Sarangani
A disqualification case has been filed against the younger brother of boxing icon Manny Pacquiao who is seeking to replace him as Sarangani province's representative in Congress.
Lawyer Mike Mamukid, a poll officer in Sarangani province, said the disqualification case against Rogelio "Roel" Pacquiao was filed by one Jophet John Mellendrez, a Sarangani resident, on the grounds of lack of residency.
Roel Pacquiao was the barangay captain of Barangay Apopong in General Santos City and president of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) in the city before he resigned from both positions in November 2015.
According to Mamukid, the younger Pacquiao was summoned by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Manila on December 11.
"Meron nag-file for disqualification againts Roel Pacquiao, ang notice of conference nito ay ngayong December 11, 2015 sa Comelec central [sa] Manila," Mamukid said.
"Meron siyang nasulat sa COC (certificate of candidacy) but it's not conclusive," he added. "The Comelec Manila will determine the veracity of that."
Manny Pacquiao anointed his younger brother as his successor as he guns for a Senate seat in the 2016 elections under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) of Vice President Jejomar Binay.
