Nueva Ecija areas flooded anew from Nona's rains

Two months after the "worst flooding in their lifetime" from Typhoon Lando, residents in Nueva Ecija were once again hit by severe flooding brought on by heavy rains from Typhoon Nona this week.

In Cabanatuan City, several areas experienced thigh-deep flooding after non-stop rains from the tropical cyclone since Tuesday.

Residents of Barangay Dicarma and Barangay Caridad were surprised by the quick rise of floodwaters after a nearby stream overflowed.

Tricycle drivers were unable to continue to ply their routes because of flooded roads, while residents where forced to move their belongings to the second floor after water entered their homes.

Among affected barangays were Dicarman, Bantug Norte, and Bantug Bulalo.

Sangitan Public Market in Barangay Magsaysay Norte was also submerged by floodwaters, leaving motorists in the area stranded.

In Gabaldon, several areas were also affected by floodwaters that carried mud and rocks into their homes.

Affected were barangays Sawmill, Malinao, Pantoc, Laor, Kalabasa, and Dupinga.

Nueva Ecija Gov. Aurelio M. Umali canceled classes at all levels, public and private, early Wednesday.

With rains ongoing, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council is continuing to monitor the situation in low-lying areas, while equipment and dump trucks have been prepared in case evacuation is necessary. —JST, GMA News
