Typhoon Nona leaves 5 people dead in Nueva Vizcaya
Typhoon Nona left five people dead and two others missing in Nueva Vizcaya before it dissipated on Thursday.
All the fatalities and those missing were from the town of Alfonso Castañeda, "Unang Balita" reported Friday morning.
The report cited local authorities as saying that a landslide incident caused by floodwaters from Nona's rains struck on Tuesday, covering a huge area in the town with thick mud.
Also, the report said that some sections of roads in the municipality were rendered impassable due to debris and trees knocked down by Nona's winds.
GI sheets from blown off roofs of houses also littered the streets, the report added.
Clearing operations are ongoing but proved to be a tough job, local authorities said, adding that relief efforts have continued despite the transportation problems.
Some 100 families are still being served in evacuation centers, the report added. — LBG, GMA News
