Landslide in Quezon kills 4, including 3 children

Four people, including three children, were killed in a landslide caused by northeast monsoon rains in the municipality of Real in Quezon on Saturday, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) reported Sunday.

OCD-Calabarzon named the casualties as Normita Lastimosa, 34; Joan Lastimosa, 10; Jhosa Mae Lastimosa, 5; and Joylyn Lastimosa, 1.

The landslide occurred at about 1 p.m. Saturday in Purok 5, Barangay Tanauan as heavy rains caused flooding in the region. According to OCD-Calabarzon in its report to OCD headquarters, two houses were "totally damaged" in the landslide, while 284 families in Quezon, Cavite and Laguna were affected.

In its 5 p.m. update on Sunday, PAGASA reported that Aurora and Quezon provinces may expect cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms which may trigger more flooding and landslides. — BM, GMA News
